Are you clear that you want to have a hospital birth but are unhappy with the prenatal care you are getting?  Do you wish your appointments were longer and that you could establish a relationship with a care provider that would be present at your birth?

If so, then With Woman Services is what you are looking for!  First we start with the interview where we meet and determine if this services and your family is a good match.  If you hire me you continue to see your OB and come to see me where we will answer questions, discuss your birth plan, provide childbirth preparation and work on coping strategies prior to labor, all while establishing a trusting relationship.

When you go into labor I will act as your doula and be present for as long as you desire  at your home and then at the hospital.  After delivery I can help you establish breastfeeding within minutes after your birth.  Once you are home with your new baby I will visit with you at two separate postpartum visits where I can further help with breastfeeding, adjusting to life with a newborn, talk about your birth experience and admire your baby!

What  is  a  Doula?

A doula is a professional labor support companion trained to provide continuous emotional and physical support during active labor.  Even the best nurses are limited by hospital protocol, patient load, time restraints, and of course, they don’t know you and your needs.  Your doula is there just for you, providing: massage, herbal remedies, help with labor and birthing positions, and after the birth assisting with establishing breastfeeding.  She also acts as an advocate for your wishes in the hospital offering a calm and reassuring presence.  She does not have an “agenda” for your birth.  She is there to accompany and support you on your journey, assisting in the unforeseeable ways that best empower YOU as an individual and as a couple.

The  Doula’s  History

Throughout history women have always attended other women during birth but now partners are expected to anticipate and fulfill the birthing mother’s intense needs through labor.  The untrained partner may feel fear, fatigue, helplessness, confusion, emotional upset, or intimidation.  A good doula is sensitive and understands her role is to support rather than to take over, freeing the parents to fully experience the birth of their child.

“We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful.  It’s that women are strong.”  Laura Stavoe Harm
