About Me

I have been married to Moriba Jah since 2002 and am the mother of Denali (who was born in a hospital with a doula) and Inara (who was born at home with midwives). I breastfed my children a total of 46 months. Each of my births were earth shattering, life transforming, and completely empowering! My greatest desire is for all women to recognize their own inner feminine strength.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Empowered Women, Empowered Births, LLC is to always recognize, honor, and respect cultural differences, while:

Educating women and families on the process of pregnancy, labor, and birth so that these events might be seen as a powerfully unique and divinely female experiences through which they can discover their own inner strength.

Helping women and families find their voices within the medical and midwifery models of care so that they feel empowered to embrace the responsibility of their own and their child's healthcare by making informed decisions.

Advocating to society as a whole that breast milk is the most healthful way to feed an infant.

BIRTH PHILOSOPHY

I believe that childbirth can be a beautiful and powerfully positive experience for a woman. I strive to realize the strong dynamics of birth by providing balanced information and caring support in a safe environment following the Midwifery Model of Care. I honor that just as every woman is different, so is every birth. It is my privilege to accompany and assist each of my clients on their special journey.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

In addition to a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Aerospace Engineering I attained an Associate of Science degree in Midwifery from the National College of Midwifery a MEAC accredited school. This degree was completed in February 2010 when I pass the exam given by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and was awarded the title of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). I am a New Mexico and Texas licensed midwife (LM). I recently completed a book entitled, Experienced Doula: Advanced Skills for Hospital Doulas, due to release May 5th—Midwives Day!

I have also completed over 150 hours of continuing education in lactation and have sat for and passed the exam given to confer the title of International Breastfeeding Consultant (IBCLC).

Additionally, I am an ALSO Provider having completed the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics training given by the American Academy of Family Practitioners in September.
